In 2009, after the tragedy of the Black Saturday bushfires, I started up a card drive called "Heart Cards" where I asked card makers and paper crafters to make thank you cards for victims of the fires to hand to those they wanted to thank for helping them during such a heart breaking time.
I was overwhelmed with the response and we received well over 1000 cards that were distributed to families and businesses in the bushfire zone.

And in 2011, Heart Cards swung into action a...gain when we asked for Thank You Cards for those affected by the floods in SE QLD. And your response again was amazing.

And now I find my own community in the grip of a natural disaster after the levee protecting our town (including our CBD and many homes) was breached late on Thursday night (April 30)
Although not affected ourselves, neither our home or our business are in the flood area, so many of our dear friends have had their businesses totally inundated and have lost much, if not all of their stock and had shop fittings, etc totally engulfed by the swirling muddy waters.

The damage is unbelievable and devastating.

I am still recovering from knee surgery so much of the physical stuff is beyond me but I can ask my friends in the crafting community to again dig deep and make just 10 thank you cards and send them to me so I can distribute them to the people in my community.
They must be a standard size - 10 x 15 cms - and if possible incude an envelope (although not necessary)
They can be all the same or of different designs - the cards will be re-packaged once they reach me so each pack will have different designs.

Once you have made them, send them to me at....
SHARON PRATTEN
9 WINDSOR COURT
GOONELLABAH NSW 2480

Please pass the word along to other paper crafters that you may know.
I would love to be able to distribute some card packs to the devastated people in my community as a way they can thank those who have helped them.

font-style: italic; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);">On September 14, 2010 a little boy was born.
His name was Harrison.
<span style="font-family: verdana; This included Harrison’s monitor wiring, his foot prints, sunnies and ear muffs - just to name a few.

Being an avid scrapbooker, Mel, Harrison’s Mum, has started making 6 x 6 albums of scrapbooking pages to be included in the boxes, for other Angel families to take home in their boxes..
Mel has found scrapbooking Harrison’s photos a form of therapy, and a wonderful way to preserve the very special photos her family holds dear.

<span style="font-family: verdana; So many of our gorgeous Lounge girls (both past and present members) have been affected by the devastating floods that have hit QLD over the past three weeks but especially the Sth East corner over the past few days.

After losing everything we owned in the '74 floods here in Lismore, I am in the unenviable position of knowing just what it is like to lose all of your possessions; of being left with nothing but the clothes you are standing in.

Already people are opening their hearts and their wallets, making monetary donations and donations of goods and services and again I am asking the paper crafters of Australia to take part in the "HEART CARDS" drive.

We are asking you to make 10 cards - thank you cards, blank cards or a combination of both - pop them in a snaplock bag and forward them to me no later than FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25.
Feel free to pop in a pack of 10 stamps too if you wish which will be sent with packs of cards - another way to help out.

We will repack the cards into packs of 10 and then they will be forwarded onto an aid organisation (yet to be determined) in Queensland and then given to the families affected by the floods.

So....get creating girls......
Scrap 10 cards - thank you, blank or a combination of both
(and please include an envelope with each card)
They can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.
Then pop them in a snaplock bag and send them off to

SHAZZ PRATTEN
9 Windsor Court
Goonellabah NSW 2480

Feel free to post this information on your blogs/Facebook pages and if you would like a flier to post in the window of your LSS (with permission of the owner of course) just send me your email address and I will send one to you
shazz64@westnet.com.au

A big thank you to everyone who decides to help out.

~shazz~
xo

Shazzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17399215072749527236noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4737731798001354475.post-68516760562685266262010-01-28T17:41:00.000+11:002010-01-28T17:47:23.842+11:00MY THANKS
I cannot thank you enough Jodes for all the support, friendship and hard work that you put into this project too.
I would have given ANYTHING to be there when you handed them over to Vicki this morning.

And I want to personally thank everyone who supported me and this VERY worthwhile cause (especially Rondelle over at The Scrap Lounge who allowed me to use her site as a springboard for this appeal)
Little did I know when I came up with this idea that we would have such an overwhelming response from crafters all around Australia.
It was a true reflection of Aussie mateship, charity and "lending a hand to those in need" that saw such an amazing response by women Australia-wide to our appeal.

To the families of Marysville and surrounds - we hope that these cards will allow you to give a small token of thanks to those people who have helped you out during the past 12 months.
And our every good wish to you all for your continued healing and getting your lives back on track.
Bless you all
xo

P.S. Keep an eye out here on the HEART CARDS blog for our next appeal for cards.
Coming soon :)

Shazzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17399215072749527236noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4737731798001354475.post-6459799767679454842010-01-28T15:30:00.001+11:002010-01-28T15:38:35.437+11:00DeliveredWe are so very excited, I delivered these cards today to the lovely Vicki, secretary of the Marysville and Triangle Development Group. She was enormously grateful and they are having a community meeting this coming Sunday night, where hopefully you're gorgeous will be handed out to those residents who would like them.
In the end there where 86 packages of ten cards = 860, gorgeous, heartfelt cards.
We packaged them up in some cute cello bags, with a note and the heart cards sticker on the front - the note read:

From our heart to yours!
"HEART CARDS" is a project to help the families devastated by last year’s Black Saturday bushfires.
The project was the brainchild of “Shazz Pratten” who rallied her on-line scrapbooking, card making and paper-crafting friends to create “Thank you” cards. I could scarcely believe that we had lost so many fellow Australians and I yearned to reach out and help in some way. I wanted to help in a more practical way than just sending along a monetary donation (not that there is anything wrong with that) but in my heart I knew that there had to be some other way that I could help.
And another thing I always knew was that I am a small part of an amazing network of friends and acquaintances.

So, after many sleepless nights and many discussions with my gorgeous friends, Rondelle, Jodi and Jody (thanks girls for your support) HEART CARDS was born.
And at the risk of repeating myself, I never truly imagined the overwhelming response that we would get from scrappers, card makers and paper crafters from all over Australia.

You have created the most amazing array of thank you cards and an amazing total number of cards. When I last spoke to Jodi – who kindly offered to be the collector, sorter and collator of HEART CARDS – she estimated that she had over 800 cards at her home, ready to be packaged into bundles and given to families.

With such an amazing response, we have now decided to close the appeal for HEART CARDS for the Victorian Bushfire Families.
If you have cards already completed, please send them off to Jodi as soon as you can, so we can get them sorted and bundled and delivered.
They can be sent to...
Ms Jodi Mann
7 Bellevue Court
Boronia VIC 3155

And now a few thank yous…….

JODI - Despite being the busy Mum to three little ones (and one “big boy” – Hi Scott….!!!!) , Jodi has gone above and beyond to support me every step of the way: developing this blog which allows us to showcase your creations and give thanks for your generosity; as well as offering to have the cards sent to her, then sorting and bundling them – no small feat I can assure you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH JODI….the concept of HEART CARDS has been made so much easier because of your input and hard work. And Jodi has offered to drive up to one of the distribution centres in the fire zone to hand deliver the cards – you are an amazing woman Miss Jodi.

RONDELLE – Rondelle is the site owner of The Scrap Lounge and kindly offered to be the host and launching pad for HEART CARDS. Many of the forum members contributed cards and helped spread the word among the crafting community. Rondelle is one savvy lady when it comes to ideas and she is always a good sounding board for me and my crazy ideas. Thanks Rondelle.

JODY – Another wonderful friend who I hang out online with. I can’t thank you enough Jody for being the voice of reason when I threw the idea of HEART CARDS open and for helping me develop the concept. Thanks Jody.

MY FAMILY – To my darling husband who has supported me through this initial HEART CARDS appeal and let me bounce ideas off him in the middle of the night – even if he still doesn’t “get” the whole scrapping phenomenon. Thanks darls.
And to my three kids who got very used to me squealing with delight every time I received an email telling me that another scrapper had taken up the challenge and then chuckled as I did a happy dance in front of the computer monitor.

JENNY DOWELL – The Mayor of Lismore (where I live). Jenny has gone out of her way to help me find a contact for the distribution of the cards. She made phone calls and sent emails on my behalf and even though we hit the proverbial brick wall at every turn, she never gave up trying. She also gave me a lot of support for the idea of HEART CARDS. Thank you Jenny.

SCRAP SHOP OWNERS: BOTH ONLINE & BRICKS AND MORTAR – Thank you all for your support and for allowing the idea of HEART CARDS to be put to your customers and members via emails, message boards and fliers.

And last, but by no means least……..
THE SCRAPPERS, CARD MAKERS AND PAPER CRAFTERS OF AUSTRALIA – “Thank you” doesn’t seem to be enough words to let you know just how grateful I am to each and every one of you who has contributed to the HEART CARDS appeal. Many of you I know personally; many of you I will never have the pleasure of meeting but from the bottom of my heart, I truly do THANK YOU.
Your generosity and spirit of giving and helping out has been amazing/overwhelming/mind-blowing and every other superlative that you can think of to add here. I am very sure that the families who receive a bundle of the beautiful cards that you have crafted, will be forever grateful to the talented strangers who took the time to create something that they can give to those people who have helped them out during this difficult time.
I am also sure they will appreciate the spirit in which the cards were crafted – the spirit of friendship, gratitude and lending a hand to a mate who has fallen on hard times.
Thank you again – you are all amazing, talented and generous souls.
Bless you all.

So get those cards sent to Jodi as soon as possible and keep visiting the HEART CARDS blog for the final tally and more peeks at some of the amazing cards that Jodi has received. We are hoping that in the next few weeks the cards will be delivered and we will be able to give you all an update on how they were received by the families.

In the next few weeks a new HEART CARDS appeal will be launched so keep an eye out here on the blog, on your online message boards and in your local paper crafting stores for details.

<span style="font-weight: bold;
